Alun Griffiths were awarded a scheme to repair and reinforce banks of watercourse running alongside an important local highway following erosion due to heavy rains. The 26 tonne CAT 321 zero-tail long reach was chosen for its compact size and unrivalled power to weight ratio. The heavy lift feature on the 16m reach machine allowed the operator better control while lifting rocks up to 2 tonnes using a fully hydraulic rotating grab to carry out the scour protection and rock placement. The compact radius of this zero-tail long reach provided real safety benefits and allowing works to be completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the public by keeping the road open.
